FAQ

  • When should I schedule a Maternity Session?

First of all congratulations on your pregnancy! Pregnancy is truly a magical time. I am thrilled you would like to document this part of your journey with Kim Graves Photography.

You may reach out to me for scheduling as soon your pregnancy test comes back positive. I do recommend scheduling at least 3 months in advance to get on my calendar.

We will schedule for a date between 32-35 weeks gestation. tThis is the best time to schedule, because mama is showing and hopefully still comfortable enough to move around during our photography sessions.

  • Where do Maternity Sessions take place?

I provide two different types of maternity photography experiences.

An in home lifestyle maternity photography session. In home sessions are common during winter months when it is to cold to be outside and for couples who want an intimate and cozy at home session.

An on location lifestyle maternity photography session. Colorado has many gorgeous scenic locations and I provide a list of pre-scouted locations for you to choose from. Locations offer a variety of features from mountain views, to wild flowers, to tall golden grass fields, to streams, historic buildings and bridges.

Both the in home and on location maternity sessions are a gorgeous way to document this moment in your life.

  • What is Lifestyle Maternity Photography?

Maternity lifestyle photography seeks to capture mama authentically solo and with family members. I use gently guided posing to create artistic compositions in a relaxed and intimate workflow.

The lifestyle maternity session goes at the pace of our pregnant mama - which means mama or little siblings needs determine the pace of our workflow.

Lifestyle photography falls between documentary photography and traditional photography. In documentary photography the photographer is an outside observer - the photographer does not interact or provided guided poses. In traditional photography the photographer as a work flow of specific poses. Traditional family photography does not capture authentic moments between or during poses.

  • How long are Maternity Sessions?

Maternity sessions are generally between 1-2 hours. The length of the session depends on if you choose a stylized session.

I offer three different maternity packages.

In Home Maternity Sessions which range roughly 60 minutes in length.

On Location Lifestyle Maternity Sessions which range roughly 60 minutes.

Stylized On Location Maternity Session which range between 60 to 120 minutes in lenght due to wardrobe changes and a special focus on mama and solo portrait.
