Travel and other locations
While I have a list of favorite locations around Boulder and the Denver metro area, I’m always up for an adventure! Kim Graves Photography happily travels all over Colorado—from Colorado Springs to Estes Park to Vail. Honestly, if it makes for a great day trip and an even better backdrop, I’m all in!
For my local seniors, I know you might have a spot that holds a special meaning, and for those traveling in, I’d love to help bring your dream location to life. Just shoot me an email with the place you have in mind!
A quick note—travel fees apply for locations more than 50 miles outside the Boulder and Denver metro areas.
Number of outfit changes
-
The yearbook essential photography session does not include an outfit change. The Yearbook Essential—is perfect for the senior who just wants a great yearbook photo without all the extras. They show up in one outfit, we capture a timeless portrait, and they’re done!
-
The Classic Senior Session includes 1-2 outfits changes. The Classic Senior Session, which includes 1-2 outfit changes is fantastic for seniors who want a bit more variety—whether it’s different styles, moods, or simply having more choices for their yearbook and prints.
-
The Luxury Senior Experience. This session allows for 1-3 (or more) outfit changes and the flexibility to shoot at multiple locations. It’s designed for seniors and their families who want to fully celebrate this milestone with a dynamic and memorable session.
What should you wear?
Y’all, I know picking outfits for your senior session can feel like a big task, but don’t you worry—I’ve got you covered! The best way to keep things simple and stylish? I suggest planning for three outfits that give your gallery variety while letting your personality shine.
The Nice & Casual Look: Start with something timeless and comfy—think jeans and a classic, neutral top. Effortless, but polished!
The Personality Piece: This is where we show off you and your interests! Whether it’s your letterman jacket, cowboy boots, dance gear, or anything tied to your hobbies—let’s make it personal.
The Dressy Showstopper: Go all out with a statement piece! A flowey dress, a sharp suit, or something that makes you feel like a million bucks.
I always say—stick with neutral tones for a timeless look, then bring in personality with accessories. Hats, jackets, bold jewelry—those little details add variety without the hassle of extra outfit changes.
Still need inspiration? I’ve put together a Pinterest board full of outfit ideas, plus my senior portfolio is a great place to see what past seniors have worn. And if you ever have questions, just holler—I’m happy to help!

Length of time for your photography session
Alright, y’all—here’s the deal. My sessions aren’t rushed; we go until we get the photos! The length of your session depends on how many outfits you bring and whether we’re hitting multiple locations.
The Yearbook Essential Session is short and sweet! One location, no outfit changes—so we’ll wrap up in about 40 minutes to an hour.
The Classic Senior Session gives you a little more variety with 1-2 outfit changes and typically lasts 60-90 minutes.
The Legacy Senior Session is the full experience! 1-3 outfit changes, two locations, and plenty of time to explore. These sessions last at least two hours, sometimes up to three, so we’ll be meeting about three hours before sunset to catch that dreamy golden light.
No matter which session you choose, we’ll take our time, have fun, and make sure you walk away with portraits you love!
What time do we meet the day of your session?
Let’s Talk About Light!
Y’all, photography is all about the light! It’s the magic that makes your portraits glow, which is why when and where we meet up for your session is so important.
Location plays a huge role, especially here in Colorado. Our stunning mountain ranges don’t just make for a gorgeous backdrop—they also change when the sun sets! Depending on whether we’re deep in the mountains or at their base, sunset can vary by over an hour. I’ve got two locations that are less than two minutes apart, yet the sun sets at totally different times—one gets golden light for an extra hour simply because it’s lower in elevation. That’s why we always pick our location before setting an exact start time.
The time of year also matters. In the winter, the sun can set as early as 4:30 PM, meaning for an hour-long session, we’d need to start at 3:30 PM—or even earlier depending on your session type. In the summer, sunset stretches to 8:30 PM, so we might not start until 7:30 PM—or three hours earlier for longer sessions. Because light is everything, I don’t finalize session times until about 5-7 days before your shoot to make sure we’re meeting at the perfect golden hour.
So don’t stress if you don’t see an exact time when you book—just trust that I’ve got it handled, and we’ll make sure your session is bathed in the most beautiful light possible!
What is golden hour? Why do we aim to schedule around golden hour?
Golden hour is the dynamic light before sunset. This is the time that we can get the gorgoues golden light, backlit portraits and evening haze. This the time of day that the sun dips low enough for the lighting to not create unpleasant shadowsadfadfadsf
