Finding the Perfect Outdoor Photography Location in Colorado: Tips and Insights
You have decided on an outdoor photography session, whether it's for a couple's session or a family session. Now, with Colorado's myriad of stunning locations, it's natural to feel overwhelmed about where to start. Let's dive into some key tips to help you narrow down your options.
Colorado Seasons
Colorado's seasonal charm is a recurring theme in my advice. Colorado is a season state. Colorado's seasonal diversity is a photographer's dream and a key factor in choosing the right location. Most locations are beautiful from late spring to early fall, when the Aspens range from vibrant green to brilliant golden. If you want lush green locations you will want a late spring or summer photography session. If you are interested in yellow and orange trees, tall golden grass the early to mid fall is your time! Winter brings a dramatic change, rendering many locations less feasible, yet presenting breathtaking snowy peaks and evergreen vistas in the mountains. Each season unveils its own magical backdrop, and I'm well-versed in identifying these peak moments for photography in various locations across Colorado.
Colorado Scenery
Colorado boasts a vast array of landscapes, from rivers and streams to fields, mountains, and wildflower-filled valleys. Colorado truly has everything! It is important to consider what elements you want in your photos, whether it's a mountain backdrop, a serene river setting, or fields of sunflowers. The variety allows for endless possibilities to match your vision.
For couples and families that come back year after year I adore that we have many different locations to choose from to give each session it’s own unique vision.
Colorado Travel
As a photographer, I love exploring Colorado's beauty and often travel for sessions. I love the drives along 70 through mountain passes, the way the sun shines around the corners of the red rock faces, jamming to my favorite tracks (mostly Taylor Swift) to visit old locations and find new ones.
Consider how far you're willing to travel for that perfect location. Whether you prefer staying closer to home or embarking on a scenic drive to a remote spot, Colorado offers beauty both near and far.
Colorado Terrian
Keep in mind who will be part of your session. This is an important factor. Factors like hiking into locations or encountering terrain like cacti can impact the comfort and safety of older and younger family members. Choose a location that suits everyone's needs and abilities for a smooth and enjoyable experience.
